Declaration of the
11th International Conference on
World Peace and Security- Role of Islam
on 30-31 December 2017

International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) arranged the 11th International Conference on World Peace and Security- Role of Islam (ICWPSRI-17) on 30-31 December 2017 under the Faculty of Shari’ah and Islamic Studies in collaboration with the Center for Research and Publication (CRP), IIUC. The Conference was held in three sessions: Inaugural Session, Plenary Session, and Academic Session.

 

In the Inaugural Session the Chief Guest was Prof. Abdul Mannan, honorable Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, and the Special Guests were: Mr. Abdul Karim, former Principal Secretary of Prime Minister, Govt. of Bangladesh, and Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Azharul Islam, former Vice-Chancellor, IIUC. The session was presided over by Prof. K. M. Golam Muhiuddin, hon’ble Vice Chancellor, IIUC. The welcome speech was given by Prof. Dr. Md. Nazmul Hoque Nadwi, Dean, Faculty of Shariah & Islamic Studies, Chair, Organizing Committee, ICWPSRI- 2017. Prof. Dr. Delawer Hossain, Pro Vice-Chancellor, IIUC, presented his speech as the special guest of the program. The session was attended Prof. Dr. Kazi Deen Mohammad, Vice-Chairman, Board of  Trustees (BoT), Prof Ahsan Ullah Bhuyian, Chairman Finance Committee and member, BoT, Md. Nurullah, Member, BoT, Mowlana Muminul Hoque Chowdhury, Member, BoT, Deans of Faculties, Chairmen of the Departments, Faculty members, officials, students of IIUC, and scholars from home and abroad.

 

In 02 (two) Plenary Sessions, five key-note speakers delivered their speeches:

Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Azharul Islam, former Vice-Chancellor, IIUC,

Prof. Dr. Mohd. Sanaullah Nadwi, Aligarh Muslim University, India,

Prof. Dr. Djemai Chebaiki, Vice-Rector, Emir Abdul Kader University, Algeria,

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abu Yahiya, Morocco,

Prof. Dr. Nazi Mostafa Badwi, Sudan.

 

In 12 (twelve) Academic Sessions 90 (ninety) papers in Arabic and English were presented. It is to be mentioned that these papers were recommended out of 158 (one hundred and fifty eight) papers by the review committee. The papers were on the following six themes:

1) The role of Islam and its relationship to achieving security and peace in the world.2) The role of Islam in the achievement of intellectual security and ideological doctrine 3) The role of Islam in achieving economic, social and political security.4) The role of the media in establishing security and world peace from the perspective of Islam.5) The efforts of the scholars in establishing a unified Islamic curriculum for all and   spreading it locally and internationally.6) The role of university education in clarifying the concept of Islam and its message and its impact on achieving intellectual security.

 

Findings and Recommendations of the Conference (ICWPSRI-17):

The researchers and scholars have pointed out the following findings:

  1. Islam is the religion of peace and security, justice and equity, cooperation and blessings. Islam is a religion of following middle path in all aspects of life – religious, educational, social, economic, politics etc. Islam rejects any kind of negative approach like terrorism, violence, extremism, destruction, corruption.
  2. All the terrorist activities in the present world in the name of Islam are the results of misconception and misinterpretation of Islam.
  3. Muslims are lagging behind in all spheres of the present world – especially in the media.
  4. Muslim world is misrepresented in the western media

 

The researchers and scholars made the following recommendations:

  1. Spreading the true spirit of Islam with direct reference from the Qur’an and the Hadith.
  2. Defining peace, security, justice, equality, and cooperation in the light of Islam and describing how to implement them in the society.
  3. Describing ‘Wasatiyah’(middle path) and its application in different aspects of life in the light of the Qur’an and the Hadith.
  4. Clarifying the meanings of terrorism and extremism; spreading the message of Islam regarding terrorism and extremism.
  5. Preventing all kinds of destructive activities because these things destroy the image of Islam.
  6. Taking initiative to save the Muslim youths from their involvement in any kind of destructive activity.
  7. Taking attempt to rectify all the misconceptions and misinterpretations about Islam.
  8. Refuting the arguments against Islam in a scientific way using appropriate references from the Qur’an and the Hadith.
  9. Producing trained professionals for media who would be imbued with strong morality and correct knowledge on Islam.
  10. Utilizing the modern technology of media to spread the correct message of Islam in different emergent situations in our daily life.
  11. Making attempt to ensure solidarity of Muslim Ummah in all the present burning issues.
  12. Muslim scholars and researchers shall work together for highlighting the correct interpretation of Islam on different issues which create difference of opinion on burning issues. This step shall facilitate maintaining peace and security in the society.
  13. Introducing the courses in the curriculum of universities and other educational institutes for giving the correct idea of Islam to the students so that they can follow the true path of Islam and can save themselves from the involvement in any destructive activity.
  14. All the Muslim governments are requested to take initiative to work together for achieving peace and security by forming a joint committee consisting of Muslim scholars from all Muslim countries.
  15. All the participants from home and abroad also appreciated the attempt of IIUC in arranging this Conference on a very important issue for the present world. They also expect that IIUC shall arrange such conferences in future.
